Elgin Emergency Generator Control Panel

General

Control was based on hardwired hermetically sealed relay logic, configured for fail safe (de-energise on fault) operation.
The panel was floor standing, multi cubicle, front access protected to IP65. Size - 3600 long x 2200 high x 600 deep.

Cubicle 1

This cubicle houses the 24V DC control batteries, battery chargers and primary control systems for the control system. There are also the battery chargers for the starting batteries.

Monitoring includes: Battery charger Monitor, Battery Charge/Discharge Monitor, ESD Black Start Override switch, Alternator anti-con heater switch and UCP anti-con heater switch.

Cubicle 2

This cubicle houses the equipment associated with the control and monitoring of the Generator Package. The control system enables the safe start up, stable operation, monitoring, shutdown and protection of the package from a Healthy or Black Start Scenario.

Internal equipment includes 24V DC hardwired hermetically sealed, fail-safe relay based logic. Electronic governing and load control units, temperature, pressure and speed transducers (4-20mA outputs).

Door mounted equipment includes: Mode selector switch, Start mode selector switch, Load sharing selector switch, Start, Stop, Emergency stop, Lamp test, Control reset push buttons.

Monitoring includes: First up Annunciator, Generator voltmeter, Ammeter, Watt meter, Var meter, Cos meter and Alternator RTD meter/switch.

Cubicle 3

This cubicle houses the equipment associated with the Generator Excitation and Synchronising functions of the package.
Internal equipment includes: Automatic voltage regulator, Automatic synchroniser, Sync check relay, Voltage monitor, Current transducer, Active power transducer, Reactive power transducer and Fuses.

Door mounted equipment includes: Excitation selector switch, Synchronising mode selector switch, Load share selector switch, Manual excitation switch, AVR set point, Speed load raise/lower, Breaker sync selector, Breaker open and close push buttons, Feeder selector switch, Feeder close push button.

Monitoring includes: Voltage and selector switch, Current and selector switch, Frequency, Power factor, kW, Kvar, Switchboard voltage and selector switch, Switchboard frequency, ACB status lamps and MCCB Feeder status lamps.
